ASICS Shoes x NOMAD Design
Project Name:
‘Aoki & Elle’
About:
Commercial piece created for Asics shoes, featuring musician Steve Aoki and Australian street artist Elle. The client was looking for a very stylistic piece, so I pitched projections to the art department as a way to do something “fresh“ and they went for it.
Responsibilities:
Worked with the director and art department to create a conceptual piece of video art based on high lumen cinema projects for the talent to interact with.
Created two different rigs, using the two projectors, that are seen throughout the video.
The main rig involved two projectors facing each other at a long distance apart with a large piece of semi translucent plastic as the “canvas” for the talent to “paint“ upon.
The other setup involved an analog glitch box, that Steve used to actually change the visuals in real time to music, while being on camera.
Both setups required a table full of analog video gear to handle the back end of compositing images of Elle’s art with video feedback that is projected on either the wall or the canvas.

Overlay (Official Music Video)
About:
“I am proud to finally share the music video for ‘Overlay’ from my self-titled album! A huge shoutout to James Bishop for taking the lead on this project & bringing it to life. I named this song after a Photoshop blend mode called overlay. Blend modes in digital image editing are used to determine how two layers interact with each other. Usually an overlay makes things darker, and I felt that this song is a turning point in the direction of the album emotively. The urban decay of Bombay Beach’s landscape was the perfect canvas to translate how I was feeling when I wrote this track. We hope you enjoy it!”

United Recording Studios X The Dead Ships
Project Name:
Making a Single: The Dead Ships at United Recording - "The Giant"
About:
The Dead Ships were approached by Hollywood’s United Recording Studios, fka Ocean Way, about doing a one-off in the historic room. The project involved following an indie band at work in the studio from start to finish in the making of a new song.
So Wesley Seidman (producer/mixer/engineer for Brian Wilson) produced, and Gavin Lurssen (Queens of the Stone Age) mastered. Says McCluskey: “Our record ‘Cityside’ was pretty much recorded live but that felt like the wrong aesthetic for the vibe of this song. We wanted to do something that hit harder, something simpler and more direct. United Recording was perfect for that. It’s one of the few world-class studios left, and we can’t believe we were fortunate enough to record there.”
Responsibilities:
Worked closely with the band to document the weekend long recording process.
Used basic lighting solutions and slow motion to help the piece feel higher budget.

Mirror
About:
An experimental film influenced by the lyrical film movement. The sonic backbone of this piece is “Gwark2” by Aphex Twin. I assembled other pieces of sound around this to create a haunting atmosphere that invites the viewer to ask questions. This was also done as a nod to Aphex Twins long time visual collaborator Chris Cunningham, who I take great inspiration from. The piece itself was shot in The Catskill Mountains, in upstate New York, in a region sometimes referred to as the “Borscht Belt.“ This name comes from the areas history as being a lavish resort region for the Jewish population of NYC in the 50-70s. However, with the rise of air travel, the resorts began to see fewer and fewer guests, leading to most of them now being shuttered. To capture this dichotomy of faded luxury I chose to mix old promotional materials with new footage I shot within these old structures. To achieve the free floating feeling of this video I shot most of it using a full steadicam system.
This Project also serves as a natural predecessor to the documentary I made after it known as “States of Decay.”

About:
An experimental film created using only time lapses photography of the now demolished Mechanic Theater in Baltimore, Maryland. The theater was originally created by notable architect John M Johansen as the center piece of the larger urban renewal of Charles Center. The monolithic sculptural forms of the building create an almost temple like atmosphere that I wanted to convey through the stillness of the sound design.
